The Maryborough Family Heritage Institute Inc will be holding an Immigration Celebration to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the David McIver, the second ship to come direct to Maryborough from Great Britain in July 1863.
In conjunction the 150th anniversary for the Monmorency, whose passengers arrived on the coastal steamer Queensland two weeks later in July 1863 will also be celebrated. This ship went to Moreton Bay but the passengers were transhipped directly on to the Queensland . Therefore these people are classed as settlers who came direct to Maryborough.
It is planned that the descendants will meet at the CWA Hall on the morning of 1st June where memorabilia will be displayed and a light lunch provided for a small cost. Then we will join the catamaran, Spirit of Hervey Bay at 2.00pm for a journey down the river and around the bay before the boat docks at the marina at Urangan. A dinner will be held at the Boat Club and a free coach trip back to Maryborough. Cost is $55 per head regardless of age. Money is to be paid in by 1st May 2013.
